Dear Parents and Students,
Welcome to the 2016-17 School Year.
Yanbu International School has a reputation for excellent academic programs, highly motivated students, and dedicated, professional teachers. As such, we are all looking forward to the start of this new school year. We have two new staff members this school year and with the help of both the veteran and new staff members, we will continue to improve our programs, facilities, and communication with all stakeholders.
Mr. Chris Slovick is the new school counselor. Mr. Slovick is from Pittsburg, Pennsylvania and has been working as a high school counselor in Arizona. Mr. Peter Watson is the new physical education teacher. Mr. Watson has been a PE teacher at the American School of London and Shanghai International School in China. Please welcome them to our YIS community.
As we continue to improve our services and facilities, you will notice some changes in our policies and physical plant. Last school year, I notified parents that we would no longer have a food provider for school lunches. This is a reminder that parents need to send a lunch/snack with their children each day. When you visit the school, you will notice that there have been many changes to the facilities that involve security. We have upgraded our security in terms of facilities and procedures. All parents need to show their YIS identification badges when entering the campus. Middle and high school students will also be issued ID badges after the start of school. These older students need to wear their ID badges every day. Another change for this school year will be in the number of allowed absences. Elementary students are allowed five (5) days each quarter and middle and high school students may only be absent ten (10) days per semester in order to receive grades.
School starts on. Assigned class lists will be posted in the front of the school as we have done in previous years. When students arrive on campus, elementary students may check for their assigned teacher and then proceed to the hard-court. The elementary teachers will pick up the students from the hard-court and escort them to their rooms at . Middle and high school students may pick up their schedules in the front lobby and then proceed directly to the auditorium for announcements before school starts.
I would like to thank the entire YIS parent community for the continued support of Yanbu International School. All of the faculty and staff are looking forward to meeting and working with you and your children as we begin this new school year. Please continue to check our website and Facebook page for information and upcoming events. Our school website and our use of other social media represents our commitment to connect and communicate with our parents and other stakeholders.
